MY CREATIVE PROCESS
I struggled throughout the creative process when it came to figuring out what methods worked for me and which did not. The idea of “killing your darlings” helped significantly when planning the end product of this project. I originally wanted to create 3 upcycled pieces in addition to the donation/thrifting project. This process helped me to realize what was most important to the audience and what ideas I was just scared to part with. I also worked a lot with different time management techniques. I had originally tried setting aside 3 hours on Sundays to work, but did not account for changes in my rehearsal schedules. I then moved on to trying to time block, adding chunks of my schedule to work on my project. However, this was also unsuccessful and if I missed a work period I would not reschedule. I had found in the end that 20 minutes of productivity followed by a 5-minute break worked best for me. I was able to choose short periods of time where I could work on my project and still give my brain a break. As for problems with creativity and productivity, I found that the practices of thinking about it before bed and exercising worked best. I would listen to music at the gym and let my mind run which allowed me to think freely about my project. I would also wake up having new ideas or clarity on thoughts from the night before. I was able to figure out what methods work best for me in all aspects of my life throughout this project.
